“I Have a Dream” is a 17-minute public speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered on August 28, 1963, in which he called for racial equalityand an end to discrimination. The speech, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters, the speech was ranked the topAmerican speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address. Although he did not live to see the manifestation of it, His Dream did not die with him. Yes the dreamer was killed, but the dream was not aborted.

Today the world honors and remembers a visionary who dared to change the world by believing in his dream; we celebrate his life and legacy simply because he chose to take a step on his dream and most importantly, trusted the dream Giver to manifest it. Hence he was willing to die for it and dare to go beyond restricted terrains just because of a dream.
Actually, he was also killed because of this same dream. Now it has been over 5 decades and you and I are a living witness to that dream.

Today, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. has become A TESTAMENT OF A DREAM COME TRUE.

Do you know that there are also great visions and dreams within you waiting for you to take a step? God Almighty has placed certain “thoughts” in you so you can manifest them to fulfill His Divine will concerning humanity. It’s about time we rise and take a step and see what the Lord will do with our dreams.

The Chicken Eagle
The Eagle is called the King of the birds because of it’s great strength, super vision and really strong claws. When someone mentions an eagle many of us imagine a big bird flying high up in the air, with it’s wings spread out, moving around gracefully with a little effort and that is rightly so. I once heard a story of an eaglet who was raised by a hen. For a very long time, this eaglet behaved like a chicken: ate the food of chickens and even pecked like them, strutting around in circles, scratching it’s talons in the dirt, it used it’s massive curved and pointed beak to dig seeds and grains out of the ground. It even sounded like a chicken and never flew. Whatever the chicken did, the eagle also did because it was ignorant of it’s true identity and their ability to soar in higher altitudes as an eagle. One day a naturalist was walking nearby and he saw the eagle with the chickens. he plucked the eagle out with his hands and added it to his company. He then began to train it and teach it how to behave like an eagle and that included learning how to fly. Initially it could not even exercise its wings, the frightened bird shrieked and fell ungraciously to the bran yard where it resumed pecking the ground in search for dinner. The naturalist gave it another chance again and took the eagle to high mountain, he spoke to it and said,

“FRIEND YOU WERE BORN TO SOAR! IT IS BETTER YOU DIE HERE TODAY ON THE ROCKS BELOW THAN LIVE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE BEING A CHICKEN IN A PEN.”

Having said those final words, he lifted the eagle up and once he commanded it to fly again. He tossed it out and this time, the eagle open it’s wings seven-foot, wingspan and flew gracefully into the sky. It slowly climbed in even higher spirals, riding unseen thermals of hot air until it disappeared into the glare of the morning sun. The naturalist smiled and was happy for the eagle because the eagle had found it’s true identity and it’s attitude was changed drastically. It never again returned to the company of chickens.

As inspirational as the above story is, I am afraid to say that many Christians who are the “Eagles” of God are behaving like the chicken eagle. Due to ignorance of our true identity, we have allowed society & circumstances to determine how we behave and run our lives. Like the eagle, many of us have allowed other people to define who we are and we wake up daily to find ourselves in a chicken pen, surrounded with unsupportive and uncaring people whose only aim in life is find the next juicy morsel to consume.

Sometimes we are blinded by our companion’s choices, the material morsels they choose to peck away throughout life may be quite spectacular. Like the eagle in the chicken pen, surrounded by champions with downcast eyes, most people lack the desire to discover their God-given abilities and talents.

Instead of exerting the least bit of faith to look up to our Creator we have rather resigned ourselves to the miserable existence of eternal pecking at the chicken feed of life: fame, a better car, a bigger house, a little more acknowledgement, a little more acceptance among our peers.

Thus we see mighty men and women of valor threshing wheat at the winepress and the devil whipping us because we are ignorant of who we truly are; if you do not know you are a millionaire with millions in your bank account, you will continue to remain poor however the moment you come to the realization of your true identity, your perception changes and you begin to walk as such.

In the same way, for us to really come into the fullness of our true identity, we must firstly know our origin; we must know who and whose we are. The Bible gives a beautiful narration of our beginning. In Genesis chapter 1 verse 27-30,it clearly states that God created man (both male & female) in His own Image and likeness to have dominion and subdue the earth and everything in it.

First of all, from the scripture, we understand that man (both male and female) was created and made. The word created is originally from the hebrew word bara which means to create from nothing and the word made is originally from the hebrew word asa which means to form from something that is already created. In other words, we are both spirit (bara) and physical (asa). After forming man from the dust of the ground, He breathed into His nostrils, the breath of Life and Man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). That meant that without the breath, there was no living soul.

Not only that we were also made in God’s image. The image here is not referring to physical likeness but is translated originally from the Hebrew words, tselem and demut which means nature, copy, characteristics and essence. Hence it denotes that Man as a spirit being is an expression of God’s moral and spiritual nature and his attributes make him a “God-Like” and place him above and beyond all earthly creation.

It is also noteworthy to note that in Romans 8:29 (NIV) “For those God foreknew He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the first born among many brothers and sisters.”

Thus, God is telling us He has destined us to be in the image of Jesus Christ that we might be forerunners in our pursuit of life and to excel in all our endeavors. In other words, for us to soar into greater heights, we must be like Jesus Christ not by words but by our walk and character. To have the image of Jesus means we are also in the same hierarchy as Jesus. And we know that Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16) so if we are to be like Jesus it means we are also sons of God.

THUS OUR SONSHIP IN GOD IS OUR TRUE IDENTITY.

This is our heritage, We are the sons of God! Whether you are male or female, you are still a son of God because your sonship has nothing to do with gender but your spiritual DNA; it is your legislated rights and inheritance . This thus should explain man’s obsession for power and control in our world today because that was the ultimate purpose of man : to manifest our sonship in the earth and to govern every affairs of this life as God’s representatives.

“And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.” – Genesis 25:29-34

Esau was hungry and bribed by Jacob his brother to relinquish his birthright for a bowl of soup.  He had developed such appetite for this soup that he could not resist the offer. Being hungry also made it difficult for him to refuse to satisfy his appetite. He succumbed to such Jacob’s seduction because He was ignorant of the worth of the birthright. He could not see how the birthright could feed him now.

Esau was born into a family rich in divine history and miraculous testimony but wondered why it had not benefited him. The birthright had become a mere title yet with no real significance to him. The birthright was just a label that had not enhanced his life. He was a grandchild of Abraham with no miraculous favor, or any divine encounter or benevolent lifestyle that could be attributed to his lineage. How could he be a progeny of Abraham and yet not experience the blessings of the covenant? All these caused him to demean the essence of his birthright. The birthright had not yet benefited him and so he did not see how it could enhance his life later so he had no qualms giving it up. It had not done anything for him, thus, at the slight opportunity to relinquish it for a bowl of soup he obliged. There was no notable benefit that could be attributed to him being a child of Isaac. Thus, he could not resist exchanging his birthright for a bowl of soup. To legitimate his actions, he exaggerated his condition to be the worst scenario, and so he placated his guilty conscience.

“And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?” – Genesis 25:32

Convincing himself that he was at the point of death and needed the soup to survive, Esau gave up his birthright to gratify his appetite. He valued his desires above the birthright.

Esau was an inheritor of an incredible divine promise being the progeny of Abraham yet was ignorant of its worth. He had failed to appropriate it in his life so not been benefited by it. His ignorance of the worth of the birth right made him susceptible to the seduction of his brother Jacob.

How many believers feel that they belong to a divine heritage yet have not seen its benefit? They are the children of God but have not seen this privilege enhanced their lives. They have no miraculous testimonies that could attribute to their heritage in God. Therefore, they hold their birthright in low esteem. They easily sell their birthright for their temporal comfort.

When given the choice between moral integrity and canal gratification, many do not hesitate to choose what will nourish the flesh. How many will choose their ambition above God? Our daily actions show what we value the most. We make choices based on such level of value. Many believers make choices that sell out their birthright to the highest bidder that promises to satisfy their temporal comfort. They easily surrender their right to their fleshy appetites. Ignorant of the power of their godly heritage, we neglect it as we are taken hostage by the subtlety of the wicked one. It is time divine light is shed on our birthright to reveal the essence of its significance.

The Birthright is the key to your Inheritance

Our birthright is the key to unlock our godly heritage.  It contains the authority to demonstrate the power of God. Our divine birthright makes it possible to access the treasures of God here on earth. It is the guarantee for your success, the shield of your protection against any demonic onslaught and the scepter of your divine authority. However, if we fail to use it, then we will not be benefited by it. If we fail to use it to invoke the benevolence of God to enhance our lives, we will ultimately devalue and discard it. It is then easily surrendered for a bowl of the devil’s pottage that offers instant gratification.

Many believers are ignorant of what they possess as children of the Most High God because they fail to exercise the authority of their birthright. How many have compromised their faith for the pottage of the enemy? What have you surrendered at the expense of your life in God? Many have convinced themselves that they cannot do without sin. We have Christians fornicating because they cannot do without their lustful needs. Many procrastinates the obedience to their divine call because it is not convenient. Until we grasp the revelation of the significance of our birthright, we will be easily susceptible to the bribery of the enemy. When we become aware of the eternal worth of our birthright, we will never sell out our faith today.

Many believers have succumbed to the bribery of the enemy, yielded to his extortion without a fight and surrendered without resisting. They live the life of their religious labels but lack the corresponding power thereof. They do not see the benefit of their faith.

Until we give up the pottage that gratifies our flesh, we deny ourselves of the authority of our birth in God. It is time we give up every pottage of the enemy, and ask the heavenly Father to restore the power of the birthright. Let us demonstrate the power of our birthright to invoke our heritage in God so we don’t fall victim to the seduction of the enemy.
